Going to the Theater in the Middle of a Pandemic

One of the lovely things about being a project-based/placed-based school is that it allows teachers to plan all sorts of outings as assignments, projects, or simple enjoyment require. Sometimes it is as quick as going to JoAnn Fabric if we need pillow material, and sometimes it is a longer trip to learn about how to create an art gallery opening. Several times a year, we head to the Wild Swan Theater to engage in their quality children programming. In fact, we were booked for one or two more shows that needed to be cancelled, of course.

So today, we tried another approach and went on our first virtual field trip to see a play by South Korea's Brush Theater. The play is called Yao Yao, and it is about a playful and slightly mischievous child who goes on a magical trip thanks to her imagination. There were some pre-play and post-play activities, including a compare-contrast thinking exercise between Yao and Oliver, a child featured in another book.

I hope everyone had a good time at the "theater" and used their best theater manners!
