Goodbye, January

❄And just like that, we say goodbye to January! What a satisfying week it has been; lots of project-related work, fun and rambunctious times outside with friends, and plenty of comforting routines to keep us grounded and steady.

In regard to our Human Body project, we continue to learn from a variety of sources. On Thursday, Dr. Joan Chen (Kalyan's mom) came in with a wonderful and engaging lesson on the digestive system.

Later on that day, we had the challenge of putting the organs in their proper places inside a human body outline - these paper models can be seen hanging in the hallway.

When 5-6 teacher Greg saw what we were doing, they asked if we would be interested in sharing our knowledge with their students, and then we in turn could look at organ tissue samples through microscopes (led by 5-6 students). We couldn't pass up such a wonderful opportunity, so we did this on Friday afternoon. Sorry, spelling challenge! You will have to wait until Monday.

We couldn't let the month end without our environmental super hero project; this time we worked with the other first and second grade class to put on a very successful book swap. Each child got to exchange some books - a great way to recycle and reuse!

Augustus and Lynn did a fantastic job as special readers this week.

We are also making great progress in our chapter book, The Mouse and the Motorcycle. Our poem of the week fit our theme - a cute one called This Poem Has Been Brought to you by Your 5 Senses. And of course quiet and buddy reading time are looked forward to each and every day.

Finally, we held our 3rd EB on Friday morning. The Potions EB made magic wands and fizzy fairy potion. It was, well, magical!
