Happy Pi Day! 3/14

This week in math class, we've been reading about circles - and measurements like diameter, circumference, and radius. We've also been reading and learning about pi, that wonderful number you get when you talk about the ratio of the circumference of any circle to its diameter. Two really enjoyable books are in the "Sir Cumference" series - we read one on Monday, and the second on Tuesday.

Also this week, after workbook time, we've been working together to create a "pi chain".  The chain has 10 colors each representing a number (or digit) and placed in order of pi (with a special sparkly gold color for the decimal point after 3). Some schools have attempted to break records and make the longest chain ever, since pi is a number that goes on forever without repeating. I believe the longest on record currently is 65,000 links. I don't believe ours will be QUITE that long, but we'll see what we get up to by the end of the week.

Here we are after 2 days of making the chain - we have over 100 digits of pi represented!
