Our big home project in October will be our annual Read to Feed fundraiser. This is always a popular event in the first/second grade classroom. Children get pledges for reading, and then read all month to raise money. This money will be pooled with everyone else's money and then donated to sponsor an animal (or trees, bees, or whatever they collectively choose) to a needy family. (I donate too, so even if you choose not to sponsor, your child should still keep track of what they read.)
