Mystery Message - Part of our Morning Routine

We have many rotating morning routines - sometimes we will be reading from a chapter book, sometimes we will be doing grammar exercises, and sometimes (like now), we are attempting to solve a mystery message.

Mystery message is a fun way for children to use teamwork to solve a puzzle. They think it is just a game, but it really affords me a great way to introduce and/or practice some literacy/grammar skills. For instance, I'll point out that some of the words start with an upper case letter. What clue does that give you about a word? Sentences may have a question mark at the end - what does that mean, and how can that help us solve some of the words?

Here is Friday's message. Try to solve it! (Ask your child to help if you are truly stumped.) Post your answer in the comment section if you dare.

"The first week of school is already over. I had a wonderful time with you. I hope you had a great week, too!" (We did! Thanks for the fabulous welcome to first grade!)
