Our Final Theme of the Year - The Future!

How appropriate that our final theme of the year is The Future. As we anticipate the summer months, and look forward to a new and bright school year next year (and beyond), the future is certainly on everyone's minds. I am imagining the school's future in our amazing new beautiful building - so much excitement ahead. And, of course, I am already getting soppy and sentimental about saying goodbye to the children who will move on to another teacher. Luckily, we will all get to work and play together in our new facility.

Our big, big, BIG project for this theme will be our time capsules. I've already sent an email about it, but I thought I would post the list here as a handy reminder. We need special items from home that reflect your child's life now, and that will fit in a time capsule (big oatmeal or coffee canister). Suggestions include:

* photographs (pet, family members, house, garden)
* postcards of favorite vacation spots
* small toys (that won't be missed too much or that are duplicates)
* a coin from this year
* take out menus
* representations of hobbies (a chess piece, for example)
* magazine pictures of favorite movie or t.v. star
* cd wrapper of favorite band
* audio of child reciting a favorite poem

At school, I will be interviewing each child. We will also take and record measurements, trace our hands, do our "best, best" handwriting, etc. I will take pictures of each child with their classmates and with me. I am also in the process of writing a special letter to each child, describing what they were like as a students, relating the funny things they said, etc.

I thought 10 years was a good, round number. So the time capsules will read 2012 - 2022.

You get the most difficult task - to choose a spot in your house where you can forget about the time capsule, but also to remember that it exists when your child is a junior or senior in high school. Believe me, as a parent of a senior, this time will come before you know it.

Have fun collecting these items - they can come in anytime!

That is such a neat idea and in 10 years it will bring back so many sweet memories. Awesome

Pretty sure you can set up a Google calendar invite for 2022, invite all of us and set it with a reminder of 6months, 3 months, then 1 month ahead of time so that we can plan the little reunion! Cool! I love this!
