Soil Analysis

Today, we analyzed our soil samples. Each child brought in samples from their yards, their streets and their gardens. It was amazing, first of all, to see how different soil can be. We had sandy soils, clay-like soils, and loamy soils. We looked and felt all the different samples, and then carefully sorted and analyzed our own soil sample. We found organic and non-organic material (living and non-living) including worms, sow bugs, twigs, pebbles, wood, etc. The children then attempted to carefully draw what their sample looked like after it was sorted.

What I learned today? I was reminded what natural scientists children are. Too bad most people seem to lose that awe and curiosity as we age!
