Owl Pellet Day!

Image result for all about owls book

This morning we read a book called All About Owls, by Jim Arnosky. We learned many facts about owls, and answered some of the questions on our K/W/L charts! While we read how owls were a predator at the top of the food chain, and that they ate a wide variety of smaller animals and birds, we imagined how much fun we would have discovering this for ourselves.

This afternoon directly after Quiet Reading, each child donned gloves (if they desired) and had a variety of scientific tools to work with - picks, tweezers, and magnifying glasses. They each also received a bone identification chart. After a brief instruction period, we were ready to start exploration.

This made for a very exciting part of our afternoon. I believe most of the children found at least one skull as well as many other types of bones. All students were very engaged - some even continued their scientific examination into free time.

Many thanks to Lindsay, one of Gussy's moms, for coming in to help. It was lovely to have you!
