Seed Sale a Big Success!

The culmination of weeks and weeks of hard work was a success. This morning, the children demonstrated their knowledge as they told customers about the seeds they had saved from a variety of vegetables. Students from Elaine's class and our class did different seeds, so we had a nice selection - everything from Moon Flowers to Heirloom Tomatoes. The artwork on the packages was lovely. We also had bean seedlings we had started from Ann Arbor Seed Company seeds to sell, courtesy of our new friend and colleague, Eric.

It started off pretty slowly, as these sales do, and between 7:30 and 8:00a.m., there were few customers. But then things picked up! By 9:00a.m. the sale was over, and we had only a handful of seed packages left. We counted our proceeds (or, as class comedian Andrew wrote on the board, "proseeds"), and got a grand total of $150.00. This money will go a long way to pay for our new rain garden, which we will help put in very soon, and will help maintain for years to come. This science/service project was a very special one, and the children will have left their footprint on their beloved school in a real and meaningful way. Thank you for letting it happen.
