Reflecting

Young children aren't often asked to do a lot of reflecting - but we feel that our opinions certainly DO matter (even if we aren't usually asked). After we finish a chapter book, it is our custom to do a review. Several different formats are used - this time, we used a very simple form. Children feel that they can be honest about how they would describe a book, and rate it on a simple scale.
Isaya gave our first read-aloud full marks!
Andrew did a beautiful job detailing his favorite character, scene, setting
We also are doing some SELF reflecting as well. I'm asking each child to use a critical eye to rate their own artwork. We went over this poster that explains what a 1, 2, 3, 4, or WOW means. I do not rate their work, and other children do not rate each other's work either. In the above example, Andrew gave himself a "4". He may decide that next time he will go for a WOW!
