A REAL Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

You know how no matter how hard he tries, everything just seems to go awry with Charlie Brown? Well, today's special feast went wrong in so many ways ... and yet, turned out very sweet indeed.

First of all, did you know that when you use every electrical socket in the room (five toasters, one t.v, and one popcorn popper), you can blow a circuit? So many toasters, but NO TOAST - although some pieces of bread got every so slightly crusty before we lost electricity. We also got a couple bowls of popcorn, thank goodness. Right before I spilled the entire bag of unpopped kernels all over the floor.

Then the DVD player on the television was particularly fussy, and we could not get it to work. So, there we were - 2 loaves of bread, 2 small bowls of popcorn, and no DVD.

Then our guests came (Elaine and her class from next door), and Elaine got the t.v. to work. Children seemed thrilled with plain ol' bread, a handful of popcorn, pretzels, and jelly beans. (Jelly beans seem to make everything better.) She even got to the bottom of the power issues so that I could make myself a cup of very necessary tea.

I'm so grateful for understanding and forgiving students, and helpful and amazing co-workers. And jelly beans.

I was sure you’d blow a circuit breaker, and it looks like you did!
