Spring Nature/Science Walk with Faye

While it felt more like Summer today, we went on our annual Spring nature walk with Faye. As usual, we all learned a lot. Faye tied in our theme of "reflections" to reflect on all the changes we've witnessed this year in the woods - from colorful leaves and scurrying animals getting food stored for the winter, to snow covered bare trees and signs of hibernating critters, to now - the most magical time of the year.

We tried to find as many signs of Spring as possible - from budding trees and new leaves, to insects, butterflies, and birds. Faye showed us an example of a type of bird (Baltimore Oriole) and a nest. It always amazes me (and makes me a bit jealous) to see her nature collections!

Each child got a yogurt cup to collect insects under the leaves. This was a great extension from the work we've done in science recently when we went on a hunt for decomposers. Students found many examples of toads, spiders, and worms.

Finally, it was time to head back to school. Many thanks to Mia's mom, Dana, who came along and took pictures. And, of course, continued thanks to our amazing nature guide and friend, Faye.
