Houses of the Future - Step Three

This morning, Perry and Amy Kulper came in early to set out their amazing activity. Each child was given an architectural "plan" made with pasta, and a wide variety of colored pasta shapes.

The Kulpers used each individual's ideas about what would be in their futuristic house, and these ideas were printed on little tags (to remind and re-inspire the children). For instance, Juna had wanted a "fountain room", so that was printed for her to see. Students chose one of their ideas to explore, and the pasta building was on!

After a while, a hat was passed around, and each student got to pick an additional feature. These ideas were what our "clients" wanted .. so now the children had to think of where and how to add a, say, insectarium.

The last part had the students naming their houses. Using Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion House as inspiration (taking three adjectives to coin a new word), we came up with some wonderful names, including the Awcoozing House and the Exfunery House.

Mere thanks do not seem enough for this wonderful experience for our children. They had a blast this morning, and are very excited to visit the Dymaxion House next week. Please take these lovely projects home soon and ask your child to tell you all about it.
