Another Parent-Scientist Visits

We have SUCH an amazing parent population at Summers-Knoll - and it is lovely that many of our parents are willing to come to share their gifts and knowledge with our students.

This morning, Vavara's mom, Natalia, came to visit. Although Varvara is a student in Elaine's room, Natalia was willing to talk with all of the 1st and 2nd graders. For about 30 minutes, the children were enthralled with pictures taken by her place of work - the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences at the U of M. Natalia talked about her important work as a scientist who studies our solar system and tries to figure out ways to protect our planet.

Natalia also loaned us a short DVD called Cosmic Collisions which we watched at the end of the day. While this film was made for the American Museum of Natural History, the pictures in it were taken by Natalia's group at the university. You can see more about this DVD, including a trailer, by clicking http://www.amnh.org/rose/spaceshow/cosmic/
