Update on Raptor Sponsorship

Before the winter break, we spent some time reading about and discussing which raptor to sponsor with the proceeds from the very successful "bake" sale. The vote was fairly close, but the bird chosen was the eastern screech owl. Sadly, this particular owl recently passed away, but the Leslie Science and Nature Center told me that they have a new screech owl. This new member of the science center is not quite ready for visits, so he wouldn't be allowed to visit our classroom. I checked with the kids this morning, and they were still clearly in favor of sponsoring the screech owl, visit or no visit. Therefore, we have sent $120.00 to the LSNC in order to take care of the little guy's needs for the next 12 months.

But we will have another type of owl visit our classroom instead - details to follow soon!

In the meantime, please enjoy the picture of a screech owl, and, if you click HERE, you will get to hear what one sounds like. Warning: It is a good idea to make sure any cats are out of the room before you play. I know this from personal experience.
