Little House on the Prairie Craft

Yesterday we read the chapter called Indian Camp. Mary and Laura go with Pa to see an abandoned camp, and discover lots of beautiful beads left by the native families. After spending the hot afternoon collecting them all, they take the wooden beads home to string. The necklace the girls eventually make together is given to baby Carrie. (I guess they didn't know about choking hazards back then.)

Each child in the class made a beautiful necklace out of wooden beads and assorted buttons. Students were instructed to make it very special, as they would not be keeping it. Rather, they would be giving it to someone special in the classroom. It was lovely to hear exclamations of, "Why, thank you! That's beautiful!" as they received their gifts.
