Baby, It's Cold Outside

Today we had our winter nature walk planned with Faye, the naturalist who works with us throughout the year. Unfortunately, the wind chill had the temperature feeling like -6 degrees, so we had to go with another plan. No worries, we had more than enough to keep us busy and happy throughout the day.

What does a typical "Fun Friday" look like? Well, it is a rather relaxed departure from the rest of the week, but that doesn't mean learning stops. In fact, Fridays give us a chance to "stretch out" and linger doing activities that may get short shrift on the other days.

For instance, today we were able to read our new chapter book for a bit longer - The Phantom Tollbooth. Then we decided to play the math game PIG. This is a great game that my math class has been playing because it relates to our current mathematical theme of probability. There is a fun family version that you can learn by clicking here.

Then we decided to get the spelling challenge nicely out of the way before heading to snack. Most children continue to do very, very well with their spelling words. It's been lovely to see. Today was no exception! The rest of the morning was spent at Malletts Creek library. I have included some of the photographs I snapped there - children looking for books, reading together, playing on the computers and enjoying all the library has to offer. It was a peaceful morning.

After lunch activities included an extended quiet reading time, finishing our beautiful pen pal letters, watching a DVD and learning a song about levers (due to our brand new theme; I will blog about that later), completing a map activity (Ask your child what Never Eat Soggy Waffles means), and some free time, where dress up continues to be the favorite choice.

WHEW!

Have a great weekend with your amazing and inspiring children.
