A Math Quandary

One of the things we've been working on in spare moments is the concept of "Dollar Words". On the chalkboard, I have the alphabet listed with a numeric value attached to each letter. A is worth 1 cent, B is worth 2 cents, etc. How many $1.00 words can we come up with? We have a couple. For instance, WIZARDS is worth exactly $1.00 (23 + 9 + 26 + 1 + 18 + 4 + 19 = 100)

Keep working and thinking – I bet we can come up with many dollar words!

That's fascinating! ($1.03) and fabulous! ($0.97) Together they make $2.00... Close, but I'm sure the children can do better!
