Writing Field Trip on April 4

I'm very pleased to announce that the 2/3 class will be off on a free, educational and fun field trip to 826 Michigan on Friday! No permission slip is necessary for this trip, and we will be eating lunch at school as usual (although at a slightly later time). Those children who order hot lunch will have theirs waiting for them upon our return. If you would like to go with us, that would be great. Just let me know. I plan on leaving school approximately 9:30a.m. Our workshop will take 2 hours, from 10 - 12.

Click on the link on the left of this blog for more general information on 826 Michigan.

According to their confirming email, 826 Michigan says in regard to our trip:

We offer our Storytelling and Bookmaking field trip to grades 1-4, in which students write, illustrate, and bind their own books within a two-hour period. It's a very theatrical writing workshop where the kids work together to write a story guided by our storyteller, but then they all write their own endings so they story is personalized. Mr. Blotch is the fictitious publisher who is threatening to fire all of the staff if the stories aren't written in a specified amount of time, and if they aren't all fantastic. Of course, all the stories get approved at the end by Mr. Blotch and our jobs are saved because the students are all such fantastic writers!

We can also focus on a few specific writing skills or areas like dialogue, adding details, character description, etc. so that we are supporting what the students are learning in the classroom.
