Materials Recovery Facility

We have a wonderful facility located very nearby. Have you been to the city of Ann Arbor’s Materials Recovery Facility yet? Located at 4150 Platt Road, the MRF is a great place to learn about recycling. We usually go as a class trip every year, and each time I come away with increased knowledge and more dedication to recycling and reusing.

I read in the Ann Arbor News today that MRF is inviting the public to a drop in open house this Saturday, September 8. You can tour the facility, eat cake, and make party favors from recycled Scrap Box materials. This takes place between 10a.m. and noon.

Also, on the second Saturday of each month, MRF offers free events:

October 13 – learn about water bottle recycling
November 10 – build a bird feeder with a recycled soda pop bottle
December 8 – make paper
January 12 – create bookmarks and pins with recycled postage stamps
February 9 – worm bin workshop (pre-ordered kit is $25.00, advance registration is required)
March 8 – make mosaics with recycled treasures
April 12 – plant a seedling in compost
May 17 – join Downtown Flower Planting volunteer event
June 14 – create a windsock with Scrap Box materials

All of these activities – except for the worm bins – are free.
