This morning, both first and second grade classes were very happy to deliver over 100 items of food to the Back Door Food Pantry, which is located at St. Clare's on Packard Street. This wonderful organization is part of the food rescue program for Washtenaw County, Food Gatherers, and helps many, many local families.
Children were greeted warmly by volunteer Kathy Daly and talked to about real ways they can help: telling others about food banks, donating unwanted books to food banks so children can grab a book or two while their parents get groceries, perhaps even having a can of food donated in lieu of a present at a birthday party. They will have to wait just a few years before being able to donate their time at a food pantry however - you must be at least 14 years old to do that.
Many thanks to all our families for your generous contributions to our 100th Day of School food drive. We surpassed our goal and donated about 130 cans this year!
