Poem in Pocket day is fast approaching! April 27th is the day we will celebrate by tucking favorite poems into pockets and sharing them with whomever will stand still long enough to listen. Please help your child pick out a great poem to read - copy it or write it down, and tuck into a nice, convenient pocket. If your child prefers to read one they wrote, that's great! Practice reading with a nice clear, loud voice.
If you would agree to come in a read a favorite poem to the children, that would make the day even more special! I'll make a pot of tea, and we can share some cookies that we will make the day before (delicious snickerdoodles), plus a simple assortment of fruit. Over the years, this has grown (as these things tend to do) into an event the children anticipate with relish. They must really love poetry.
Keep A Poem In Your Pocket
By Beatrice Schenk de Regniers
Keep a poem in your pocket
And a picture in your head
And you'll never feel lonely
At night when you're in bed.
The little poem will sing to you
The little picture bring to you
A dozen dreams to dance to you
At night when you're in bed.
So - -
Keep a picture in your pocket
And a poem in your head
And you'll never feel lonely
At night when you're in bed.
