Special Readers, Remote Learning Style

Good news! Special Readers continues to be a valued and valuable weekly routine, even during remote learning. Of course, there had to be some adjustments to make it work, but I think we're doing just fine.

How it NOW works:

Two children will come prepared to read a special book aloud to their classmates. This book should be picked out and practiced several times for increased fluency and expression. Shorter, funny pictures books are the most popular with audience members, although children have also had success reading joke/riddle books, short mystery stories, poetry, and so on.

Prior to each Monday, selected readers should indicate whether they would like to read "live," during our normal afternoon google meet, or if they would prefer having an adult make a recording.

Audience members need to continue to be polite listeners. You do this by clicking off your microphone, putting a pin on the reader so your attention is not diverted, and by not typing anything during this time. Being a good audience member is so important - we don't want to forget how to listen not only with our ears, but with our eyes, mouth, and hearts ❤

Here's our updated schedule. It's the final one of the year, folks!
