It was a big day in the first/second grade classrooms. Ron and Jen, Maya's parents, came in to set up a health clinic with real tools. Ron is a general practitioner at Packard Health Clinic - and while we tossed around the idea of a field trip, we eventually decided it would be much more hands-on and fun to set up a "clinic" right in our classrooms!
Children rotated through stations getting their weight and height checked, then vital statistics (blood pressure, pulse), reflexes, heart and lungs listened to, and eyes checked. Students took turns (with adults assisting) being doctors and patients. Each student filled out their own medical record sheet.
This was an amazing opportunity for our young medical students.
