What's Your Word ?

One of the yoga/meditation studios I go to takes a practice from The Chopra Center. Each New Year the teachers and students think about a word or an intention about what one wants to manifest. Instead of the traditional resolutions that no one seems to keep, you try to think of a simple word to focus on.

Before the 2019-2020 school year started, the teachers and staff gathered for a sort of ice-breaker. But, as was explained, this was more of an ice-MAKER. We took turns going to the front of the room and pouring a ladle of water into a section of an ice cube tray, while telling our coworkers what our intention for the school year was. (The next day, we would take our ice we made together and toast to a successful year.) My intention for the year was to find joy in each day - to make deeper connection with each child, and to fully commit to being present. I take as inspiration the many teachers I admire here, especially Michelle R in the 3-4 room, who I see around completely in the moment with each of her students, never less than 100% "there."

So, to continue on, my word for 2020 is PRESENT.

On Monday, I'll ask the children to think of their word. I wonder what stories their words will tell?
