I think we all forgot a little what it was like to be in school, after two weeks of holiday revelry!
Children are slowly getting back in their sleep and eating schedules, and seem almost grateful
to have the rules and routines of the classroom again. Our classroom stayed clean until about
Monday noon. Oh well - is IS good to be back! Friends loved seeing and playing with friends,
that’s for sure.

And I’ve been champing at the bit wanting to share all the fun plans cooked up over break - both
project/theme-wise, and EB related.

On Monday, we started off with two familiar routines - Special Readers and Spelling-Go-Round.
Evan and Mira both did lovely jobs with reading, sharing the limelight nicely.

We started a new chapter book, with several children reading along in their own copies (yay!)
This month we are reading the classic, The Mouse and the Motorcycle.

We introduced our new big project this week - Body Systems. We will study 5 of the major body
systems, with the goal of each student becoming a system “expert.” Our end project will be to
open a demonstration clinic with presentations and models. We will have lots of real-life experts
visit our classroom - we are lucky to have so many medical professionals in our parent community!

We found a new use for our identity cabinet - we now are finding and displaying natural items in our cabinet of curiosities. Come, take a look. Even better, be on the lookout for tiny thing that may fit - dead bugs, feathers, wings, empty/clean quail eggs - all will find their place in our wonderful collection.
I showed the children what we got in the mail over break - our adoption certificates for our two
raptors at LSNC along with their photographs! We will be sure to visit these cuties in the Spring.
It is a little thrill for the children to see our name on the plaque outside their enclosure.
