This Week in Review

This information is also found in Walter's weekly email:

This week was very full, and we are now fully into the groove. It is hard to believe it is only the third week of school -- we've already done so much! In math, we've been working and playing with our good friends the base 10 blocks.

On Friday, we had fun building "base 10 houses", given a certain number.

These tools really help us visualize our number system, and help us when adding and subtracting (especially when "renaming"). We are playing a new place value game when workbook time is done, called simply High Number. This game will be taught to parents during Curriculum Night.
We wrote for several different purposes this week - we tried our hands at poetry writing (our first one is still in progress), letter writing, and informational writing. We illustrated our weekly poem and finished our beautiful self portraits, which are now hanging on the classroom wall. We started a new read-aloud this week, a Roald Dahl favorite, Matilda

Shan took the children on a combined Science/Nature/P.E. hike on Thursday where children used all of the senses at County Farm Park.

This was their second scavenger hunt of the day as the morning was spent on a field trip at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market with Grace's 1st/2nd grade class.

We talked about this field trip, as well as other field trips we have taken in September, at Friday's Morning Meeting. We spent considerable time on Thursday preparing for our first all-school presentation.
