First Week of School

This information also found in the S-K weekly email:

During our first week of school, Susan's first and second graders spent time getting to know each other, as well as the routines of the day. We read lots of back to school stories, did a scavenger hunt based on common traits, and tried to solve a name word-search. Children shared family interviews and added to our identity cabinet, a collection of tiny items that reflects who we are.

In math, we played rousing games of Salute! and finished our assessments. Math groups will start next week.

Science time with Shan was very fun as we listened to Ada Twist, Scientist, and then got busy with our first partner engineering challenge. We needed to "help Harry" and build a perch for little puffballs using common materials, like foil, pipe cleaners, and index cards.

We went on our first field trip of the year as we trekked to JoAnn Fabric Store to purchase soft fleece and fluff. Each child made their own reading pillow to make quiet reading times much more cozy.
