This Week in Review - February 13 - 17

This information will also be found in Walter's weekly email:

This was a week of celebrations! We had not one, not two, but THREE birthdays to celebrate. We also had a special healthy cherry treat for Valentine's Day, thanks to Billy's mom (from Elaine's room). The Valentine exchange was very sweet, and we practiced giving and receiving with love and gratitude. We continued expressing our love for our backyard birds by making heart shaped bird treats - the skills we used included reading, following directions, and working together as a team.

Of course, the big news in math was the culmination of our work with coins. Flea Market math was held on Thursday morning, and children from both 1st and 2nd grade classes practiced in a very real-life way how to handle a budget and make decisions, as well as coin values and making change. Our main preparation for this was doing "pocket riddles" for each other - ("I have 43 cents and 8 coins. What coins do I have in my pocket?")

On Thursday afternoon, we went on a winter nature walk with a naturalist. We practiced map reading and compass skills.

Our annual skating party at Buhr Park was held Friday morning as a lovely send-off to Mid-Winter Break.
