Forts - Why We Love Them

Being in a school setting that encourages lots of outdoor play time in natural surroundings is a wonderful gift for both students and teachers. Students receive all the benefits of getting enough outdoor time - burning off excess energy, strengthening bonds with other children in a play situation, and clearing their heads from anxiety or worry. Teachers get more focused and happy students when it is time for classroom work. It's a win-win!

The children here use a lot of natural materials in their play - and since there are plenty of sticks and branches in our wooded area, these are easily collected and used for all sorts of things. One of the most popular ways to spend outside time is building forts.

I came across a lovely explanation of why children build forts, and how to encourage this sort of play. You can read it too, by clicking HERE.
