Place Value Work Continues in Math Class

Yesterday and today in math class we made abacuses as yet another way to visualize place value. Each line of beads represents a different place - units, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, and millions. These homemade tools will be used to make numbers, to help us add and subtract, and to better understand "carrying" and "borrowing". They were a lot of fun to make, and are beautiful to look at.
