A Morning of Drumming

We had a very special morning Friday, planned by our music teacher, Josh. The World Percussion Clinic came and worked with all of our students, K-8, in small workshops. Then they put on an hour-long concert/demonstration using lots of different percussion instruments, from all over the world.

Mark taught all the 1st and 2nd graders to play two different instruments from Ghana during our workshop. Both are popular with children there. The kashaka was the most difficult - it is made from two small round gourds connected by a string, and is played by swinging the gourds around one hand to clack them together. The other was a hand drum, and it was more familiar and much easier to do.
