Farm to Table, Planting

Next week, we will plant at least two container gardens for our porch area. I went to the farmers market this morning with a specific plan in mind - what could we grow that 1) will lead naturally to fun cooking projects, 2) that kids would like to eat and 3) could be ready to harvest in just a few weeks?

My solution - a pizza garden (oregano, basil, arugula, thyme) and a tea garden (chamomile, spearmint, mint, hyssop, lavender). In late May/early June we will make mini-pizzas one day, and have a tea party another day. Lovely!

Here is a picture of one of my cats checking out the selection. Frisky approved!

I am sure that the children will be so happy to consume what they have seen growing and it will mean so much more to them than just eating and drinking. Marvelous idea.
