Final Parent Presentation for Tool Month

Eli's mom, Anna, is a professor of chemistry at the U of M. She came with two of her research students to tell the children about what she does, and to demonstrate some of the tools that chemists use. The children loved it.

Students received their own scientific journals so they could record notes and make pictures. Anna explained that chemists document everything they do, so they can make sense of what is happening and share the results with others. The other tools we saw and/or used were yeast cells, liquid nitrogen, petri dishes and pipettes.

Liquid nitrogen was used - big wow factor!

Students were thrilled to receive their own science journals

Writing in a journal is slightly challenging wearing gloves!

Anna and her assistants prepare the yeast cells

Oliver practices using a pipette to see what cells change colors

Oh my Susan, I love that area of study so much and would love to have been there for her demonstration. It was a very good month for your children and I appreciate all the great photos.
