Today, the students in the 1st/2nd grade class traveled to the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum for a very educational field trip. We had about an hour to explore the museum before having lunch. After lunch, we headed to our Simple Machines lab. I was very proud of the students for knowing so much, and being able to communicate their knowledge to our instructor, Nancy. Pairs of students were led in several experiments with levers and inclined planes. Many, many thanks to Mark Maynard who was our fearless parent volunteer. Without him, we would not have been able to do this important and valuable work.
Here are some pictures of the students making a hypothesis and experimenting to see if they were correct. On this particular experiment, they were changing the dynamics of a lever by moving the fulcrum.
