Anna's Table

The book we read today is called Anna's Table, written by Eve Bunting. Anna, the child in the story, loves all nature, and even has an entire table in her bedroom with lots of treasures - shells, beach rocks, dead insects of all sorts, feathers, nests. One of the pages told of how she has bones from a mouse - found in owl pellets that she found. While Anna is sad that the mouse had to die, she knows that, "this is just nature's way. An owl must eat to stay alive."

After we read the story, each child got a bone-sorting guide and an owl pellet. Slowly and carefully, they dissected their pellet and tried to identify the skulls and other bones they found.

A great book and the kind of activity they were doing is what I love to do and wish I could have been there watching their excited searching. Great work as always Susan.
