Math and Architecture

It's February 1st, and the beginning our new theme! This month, we will study architecture. Math time this morning was used as a basic introduction to some architectural concepts.

Here, Freya used pattern blocks to make a quilt design.

Kjirsten Blander loaned the room some Froebel blocks. These were introduced to Frank Lloyd Wright when he was about 8 or 9, and may have been one of his first inspirations as an architect. The children really enjoyed exploring these today.

After learning about the tetrahedron, students were challenged to make a bridge strong enough to support a heavy book. Here, Toussaint works and re-works his design.
