Farmers Market Trip Today

We spent a valuable hour at the Farmers Market this morning. Armed with 2-page scavenger hunt sheets, children examined each item at the market, and interviewed numerous farmers. We learned, among other things, how different fruits and vegetables come in many different varieties, why distance is an important consideration for both farmers and consumers, beneficial insects (very interesting to me is the teeny little wasp that Carpenter's Organic Farm uses), challenges farmers face (big on the list is weather, but there are many others too), and what certified organic means.

We enjoyed delicious apples (one of the many, many varieties available at the market today-Empire) for our morning snack.
