First of all, thanks so much to Lila's family for supplying a Mancala game. I have one as well, so 4 children can play at once. If you happen to have a game at home, please consider loaning it for a few weeks. It is great to have a game that actually comes from the North African region!
The above photo shows Lila and Lea playing Mancala at recess - they even wore N. African garb to add authenticity.
We've been working on our passport projects. About half the children have "visited" all the countries and have become tour guides. These tour guides are available to assist the children who are still on their journey. These passports are a great tool - and teach the children not only about a geographical area, but also show them how to research and properly use and understand maps, atlases, and non-fiction texts.
We've also done a little cooking (and will continue to do so). Sometime in the next couple weeks, I hope to make and eat cous cous in the traditional way. We may also have a Moroccan tea ceremony. More details to come! We will also soon begin making our table top decorations for the big Alex Young/N. African feast. If you haven't RSVP'd yet, please do so soon! It will be an amazing event.

This was one of my favorite games as a kid. In Sweden, we called it Kalaha!
