Career Day Project - HOMEWORK

We will have our first all-school Career Day on Friday, September 26th. Will, Elaine and I are still discussing the details, but it will be a low-key affair lasting about one hour.

Each child will be responsible for a career day project. For my class of 2nd and 3rd graders, I would like them to research a job or their choice. It does not necessarily have to be a career they want to do when they grow up, but it should be one they are interested in. It does not have to be the career they are writing about at school (but it can be if they prefer). Students can either research a job by reading books and other materials or interviewing someone in that job now.

The presentation piece should be a poster. I would also LOVE to have your child dressed as they would for the job, and/or to bring a prop. Don’t buy a special outfit, please – we don’t want to make this an additional expense. A pair of sunglasses for a movie star, or a white shirt to represent a lab coat is great. Please note – there have been students talking of being secret agents or soldiers (which is great) but NO weapons will be allowed at school.

Dates:

By Friday, 9/19 Student should pick a career to research

Monday, 9/22 Students will check in with me to discuss ideas

Thursday, 9/25 Bring finished posters to school

Friday, 9/26 Career Day! Come dressed up
as someone in the career you
chose.

SOME IDEAS for POSTER PROJECT (this should be done as homework)
• A collage of pictures that depict their career choice
• Painting or drawing of themselves doing their job, with details of various tools of the trade
• Photographs of someone doing a job - “a day in the life of...”

Have fun!
