Theme for March - India!

Our school-wide theme for March is Asia and, as usual, each classroom will concentrate on one particular region or country. I chose India as our country. India is filled with so many interesting aspects ranging from its geography to its religions to its culture. I will expose children to this fascinating country using as many hands-on activities as possible. Plans include cooking, role-playing the caste system, listening to Indian music, etc. Outcomes include being able to locate India on a variety of maps and demonstrating understanding of various geographical terms (desert, mountains, coast, river, bay, boundary, plateau). Along with informational texts, we will also read a wide variety of folk tales from India.

The other teachers and I are thinking about ways for us to share what we've learned. At the end of the month, we hope to have an Asian festival or marketplace activity of some sort. We will keep you posted!
