Our
seed saving project is quickly coming to fruition as children this week put
finishing touches on their packages. They added lots of information that they
researched to the backs to the packages that should help the customer know how
to plant the seeds, and then did the time-intensive (but fun) job of cutting,
folding, filling, and taping. I think everyone is very proud, and very excited
for the sale on Monday afternoon.
Explorations
Blocks started this week for the final time of the 2018/19 school year. This
time around, the children had four exciting options from which to choose.
Students with me in aMAZEing Mazes learned the difference between a maze and a
labyrinth and got a chance to make one of each. The maze was constructed out of
wikistix and a cd case, and the labyrinth was drawn with pencil, outlined with
glue, and then sprinkled with sand.
Finley
and Emma were excellent Special Readers on Monday, both sharing delightful and
funny picture books.
We also finished Mrs.
Piggle Wiggle’s Birthday this week, and have just a few short weeks to
decide on and read a new chapter together. Our writing was all about our seed
project – children now have a page for their memory books about all their hard
work. Most indicated that parts of it were “gross” (the smell of fermentation) but
overall, “fun.”
And we recited and illustrated our weekly poem – a very
appropriate choice this week – Package of
Seeds, by Aileen Fisher
They
can’t see their pictures,
They
can’t read the label
The
seeds in a package
So
how are they able
To
know if they’re daisies
Or
green for the table?
It sounds like a fancy,
It
sounds like a fable,
But
you do the sowing,
The
weeding, the hoeing,
And
they’ll do the knowing
Of
how to be growing.
Beck,
our glorious librarian, was back this week with some more fun choices. She came
equipped this week with another homemade felt board story, which the children
truly enjoy.
Finally,
Teacher Appreciation Day was held at S-K on Thursday, as we were all treated to
amazing delights and a scene outside that can only be described as magical. It
was so much fun to be pampered for an hour. I think the children had a great
time, too, as parent volunteers entertained them brilliantly. Many thanks to
all the parents who made it happen for us!
