Scenes from Quiet Reading

We have quiet reading each and every day. It is one of my favorite times of the day, and I know the children love it too. It is so nice to spend some time recharging our batteries while we look at books, or listen to books on CD.

I take this time to read one-on-one with students, informally (and sometimes more formally) assessing their progress. Sometimes the child gets to select what they want us to read together, and sometimes I get to choose. It is important to pick a "just right" story to read - not too difficult, not too easy.

After 10 or so minutes of "absolutely silent, one child-one book" reading, we can then get with a pal or two for some sweet buddy reading time. Here are a few pictures I snapped today:

Sometimes it's fun to read by yourself
