Special Delivery ... of WORMS

One of our big environmental projects each year is the care of our worm station. All year we will continue to learn about these fabulous creatures, and watch them as they turn our snack scraps into lovely compost.

We started today by reading a story.

Then I showed a mysterious package that came in the mail today. We talked about why it could be marked Rush Shipment! and Perishable! After opening it up, we had a small bag of worms. Taking guesses at how many worms were contained within was tricky, but Jiajia guessed correctly - 2000!

Finally, the fun part - adding the worms and table scraps to the bin. We will use the worm castings they produce this Spring to improve the soil.
